Leah Davis earned a BFA in illustration with a minor in writing from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2000. She works primarily with batik, creating illustrations with wax and dyes on cotton muslin or japanese paper. Davis chooses batik because the "loose" process allows her to achieve a disctinctive look in her artwork. Inspirations include nature, love, and the unbelievable. Some of her favorite subjects include children, animals, nonsensical and sensical things, charming places, and crazy creatures.
