My interest in drawing began about the same time I could tell a crayon from a cookie. I've always worked as an illustrator, first as an animator, then graphic designer and illustrator for editorial advertising and marketing. But now I've found my calling as a children's book illustrator and plan to live happily ever after.
Most of my illustrations are drawn digitally on a Cintiq 21UX in Painter. Earlier historical fiction trade books are rendered in colored pencil. Much of my work for educational publishers is in watercolor creating an edgy, loose style for a fun and whimsical feeling. In either style my characters accurately portray a variety of ethnicity without being stereotypical.
Books awards include three I-Parenting Media Awards, Children's Book Sense 76-Recommended List, Forward Magazine's Awards for Book of the Year, Independent Publisher Magazine's Juvenile Fiction Award, Parent's Choice Designation as "Outstanding. and a bronze medal for 2007 MoonBeam Children's Book Award."
I'm a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and Picturebookartists.org.
